The Governmental Center

Meditation:

Let the priests, who minister to the Lord, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, "Spare Your people, O Lord, And do not give Your heritage to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?' Joel 2:17

Reflection:

At every level of government, there are places of prominence. Counties have county seats. States, provinces and territories each have respective capitols. Every nation of the earth has a place that the government resides and does business in. These cities are power centers – what is done in the meeting rooms and hallways of these cities affects the people of that land and often the surrounding areas as well. This all applies in the physical realm, but what about the realm of the Spirit? Is there a place of government for that?

The prayer room – the place where God’s saints gather to intercede – is the governmental center of the universe. The jurisdiction entrusted to the prayer room supercedes borders guarded by armies and spiritual principalities. Whether a large gathering of thousands or two or three around a kitchen table, these are the gatherings that truly affect the destiny of billions of people.

Setting aside time for fasting and prayer is the first line of defense in our war against darkness in this age. God’s primary call to a nation in crisis was to gather together in solemn assemblies like the one described by Joel. Let these days of fasting find you planted between the porch and the altar, crying out to the God of heaven to spare His people.

Prayer:

Father, I ask You for an impartation of faith to believe that my voice moves Your heart and that as we cry out to you God, that You bend Your ear and hear the cry of the righteous. What an awesome God you are to partner with your creation.
