Matthew Cullinan Hoffman (November 30, 2007)

(Portugal)—Members of the Portuguese Medical Association are circulating a petition on the Internet to urge the Association leadership to maintain its anti-abortion ethical code, asking it to "maintain with the greatest rigor and commitment the intransigent struggle for the ethical independence and autonomy of the medical profession."

The Portuguese government, which is currently headed by socialist president Jose Socrates, legalized abortion on demand earlier this year during the first trimester of pregnancy, and says it is now initiating legal proceedings against the nation's doctors for refusing to alter their code of ethics, which prohibits abortion.

The Code of Ethics of the Association states that "doctors must maintain respect for human life from its beginning," and "the practice of abortion constitutes a grave ethical failure."

Denouncing the "misuse of medical knowledge that various powers and pressure groups" are attempting to impose on the Association, the signatories compare the government's demands with earlier movements for, "forced internments in psychiatric institutions, sterilizations, and elimination of human beings for eugenic or racist reasons."

The doctors remind the Association that the 2,500-year-old Hippocratic Oath exists to resist the moral fashions of the times, which have often been a threat to the dignity of human life. They wish to avoid "the subjection of this Code to a changing 'ethic', molded to the taste of the interests, conveniences, ideologies or convictions of those who happen to have power or influence at the time."

Over 700 Portuguese doctors have so far signed the petition, which is addressed to the Bastonario (official spokesman) of the Medical Association, Pedro Nunes. Nunes has repeatedly denounced the government's threats and has refused to capitulate.

GREAT QUOTES

These quotes come from- sermonindex.net - check it out.

"On the mountains, torrents flow right along, cutting their own
courses. But on the plains canals have to be dug out painfully by
men so that the water might flow. So among those who live on the
heights with God, the Holy Spirit makes its way through of its own
accord, whereas those who devote little time to prayer and
communion with God have to organize painfully." - Sadhu Sundar Singh

"Groanings which cannot be uttered are often prayers which
cannot be refused." - C. H. Spurgeon

"God's greatest gifts to man come through travail. Whether we
look into the spiritual or temporal sphere, can we discover
anything, any great reform, any beneficial discovery, any soul-
awakening revival, which did not come through the toils and tears,
the vigils and blood-shedding of men and women whose sufferings
were the pangs of Its birth?" - F. B. Meyer

"Some people become tired at the end of ten minutes or half an
hour of prayer. What will they do when they have to spend
Eternity in the presence of God? We must begin the habit here
and become used to being with God." - Sadhu Sundar Singh

"Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all
that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepen,
confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything,
even ourselves to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God."
- Andrew Murray

"Continuing instant in prayer (Rom. 12:12). The Greek is a
metaphor taken from hunting dogs that never give over the game
till they have their prey." - Thomas Brooks

"Trying to run a church without revivals can be done when you can
run a gasoline engine on buttermilk." - Billy Sunday

"If you are strangers to prayer you are strangers to power."
- Billy Sunday

"Shall I give you yet another reason why you should pray? I have
preached my very heart out. I could not say any more than I have
said. Will not your prayers accomplish that which my preaching
fails to do? Is it not likely that the Church has been putting forth
its preaching hand but not its praying hand? Oh dear friends! Let
us agonize in prayer." – C. H. Spurgeon

"All prayer is hidden. It is behind a closed door. The best spade
diggers go down into deep ditches out of sight. There are numbers
of surface workers, but few who in self-obliteration toil alone with
God." - Seth Joshua

"A church in the land without the Spirit is rather a curse than a
blessing. If you have not the Spirit of God, Christian worker,
remember that you stand in somebody else's way; you are a
fruitless tree standing where a fruitful tree might grow."– C. H. Spurgeon

"I was enabled to lie at Jesus' feet and to wash them with the
tears of contrition. No pleasure I have ever found in the Christian
life is superior to this." - Edward Payson

"In the evening I was favored with great faith and fervency in prayer.
It seemed as if God would deny me nothing, and I wrestled for
multitudes of souls, and could not help hoping there would be
revival here." - Edward Payson

"As I was walking in the fields, the thought came over me with
almost overwhelming power, that every one of my flock must soon
be in heaven or hell. Oh how I wished that I had a tongue like
thunder, that I might make all hear; or that I had a frame like iron,
that I might visit every one and say, 'Escape for thy life! Ah sinner!
You little know how I fear that you will lay the blame of your
damnation at my door." - Robert Murray M'Cheyne

"If revival is being withheld from us, it is because some idol
remains still enthroned; because we still insist in placing our
reliance in human schemes; because we still refuse to face the
unchangeable truth that 'It is not by might, but by My Spirit."
- Jonathan Goforth

"I had an overwhelming experience of the Lord's presence. I felt so
powerfully overcome by the nearness of the Holy Spirit that I had
to ask the Lord to draw back lest He kill me. It was so glorious
that I couldn't stand more than a small portion of it." - Mordecai Ham

"There are a lot of Christians who are halfway fellows. They stand
in the door, holding on to the Church with one hand while they
play with the toys of the world with the other. They are in the
doorway and we can't bring sinners in. And, until we get some of
God's people right, we cannot hope to get sinners regenerated.
Now they always accuse me of carrying around a sledge hammer
with which to pound the church members. Yes sir, I do pound
them, every time I come down, I knock one of the halfway fellows
out of the doorway, and every time I knock one out I get a sinner
in." - Mordecai Ham

Keith Miller: "The Blessing of His Presence"

The following article is courtesy of elijahlist.com

God is Stirring Up an Ache Inside of Us for MORE!"
keith miller

In this revelatory article, I'll explain why it's important to hunger and thirst after and contend for and pursue breakthrough for God's presence. It is the encounters with God that will release abundant favor and fruit in your life for His glory. We'll examine exciting Biblical truths and blueprints through the lives and testimonies of King David in his Psalm 63 prayer, Moses, Aaron, and the study of the Old Testament tabernacle and tent of meeting. Learn how to go from the tent of meeting to testimony, to becoming a witness of the testimony of His presence. It's an exciting place where you can believe for the impossible and where anything can happen!

O God, You are My God!

I am so excited about what the Lord's doing right now. It's a time where the Lord is putting the same cry of David found in Psalm 63 into His people's hearts: "O God, You are my God!" The Lord wants to release that cry in us daily, not just on Sundays! It's saying everyday, "I can't help but worship the One whom I am extremely, overwhelmingly in love with!" How awesome to awaken every morning with, "O God, You are my God!"

Friends, this is a time to PRESS IN to the Lord for this anointing--the anointing of a worshipful, God-seeking heart. How would you like to awaken every morning with an attentive ear that eagerly anticipates the Word He has waiting to release for you? Aren't you glad He's your God?

What a privilege to get out of bed every morning with, "O God, You are my God!" Why do you think God included this passage in the Bible? There's good reason why the Holy Spirit inspired David to start Psalm 63 off this way, because not only is it a privilege to worship God, but also because we have the privilege of unlimited access to Father God through Jesus, our Redeemer. As a result of unlimited access, we can go before the Throne any time, and we don't have to bow back, we won't have to draw away, but we can go before God Almighty and say, "O God, You're my God!" Why don't you just praise Him for that privilege right now and tell Him aloud, "O God, You're my God!"

Early Will I Seek You

In the next breath, David prays, "Early will I seek You." The implication here is that God is David's first love. He seeks God early or first thing in his day. I tell you, I believe one of the things that the Lord is releasing to the Church right now is a fresh fire of His passion and love. Do you want His love to consume you afresh? Of course you do! We need the primary motivation for everything we do to be His love. God wants us to press into Him by faith to receive the imprint of a greater depth of His love in our inner man, so that His love flows like a river out of our lives and touches people around us. We're not going to have to "pump the pump" in worship, but we can just BE worshippers. Tell yourself right now, "I'm a worshipper." Do you know why you're about to break through into this? It is because He's about to break through for you! You can't help but be overwhelmed because of His lovingkindness!

My Soul Thirsts for You

How desperate are you for God? Do you thirst or hunger for Him, for His presence? David cried out, "My soul THIRSTS for you, my flesh LONGS for you in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water." How desperate is that? His flesh longed for God. Listen, when your flesh longs for Him, you're living out Galatians 2:20, "...it's no longer I who live...." It's saying, "But the flesh crucified and I want Him to live His life through me." The flesh doesn't like to be denied. It likes to eat and it likes its comfort. The flesh is used to getting certain things, and it doesn't like to let up.

When a group of people denies their flesh to cry out to God, something big is up! I believe the Church has stepped into a new season of hunger. We're beginning to put a demand on the presence of the Lord and we don't care what it costs, we just have to have more of HIM! We have all had wonderful blessings of the Lord in our lives and we're truly grateful for that, but God is stirring up an ache inside of us for more of His presence!

So I Have Looked for You

Hunger is something we must respond to, just as David did. He fed his hunger by feeding himself with revelations and remembrances of God. He'd lie on his bed at night and ponder about Him, and think about God and His goodness. He'd remember things that God had done, or reflect on His character. Have you ever had little bits of flashbacks of God's promises in your life? Have you ever been stirred to say, "Oh, I remember the days Lord, when You promised me...I want to see those days God!" God stirs our hunger. When He stirs yours, how will you respond? Like David? "O God, You're my God!"

A revelation is coming to the Body of believers whereby, we are going to understand deeper still the vastness of God! It will awe us and we'll marvel that we have access to One so great; that He is OUR God, who spoke everything we see into existence with a word! He knows the beginning from the end and the end from the beginning, and His counsel stands forever. From "ancient times," He knows things that are not yet done and says, "My counsel shall stand, and I will do My pleasure!" (Isaiah 46:10).

It's just so awesome that this One who speaks is our God and I marvel that we have total access to Him!

While in Dallas for some incredible meetings, one night I awoke out of a dead sleep startling my wife Janet, and she says that I was saying, "Oh God You love me, You love me!" I recall also saying, "I want those things that You have prepared for me! Holy Spirit, search the deep, deep, deep things of God and give them to me!"

Are you ready to dive into the bottomless treasure chest of God for your life? Listen, when you awake hungry, the Lord is up to something in your life because He initiates the hunger.

In the Sanctuary

King David tells God that he searched for Him in the sanctuary: "So I have looked for You in the sanctuary...." Where's the sanctuary of God? The Bible says that we are the temple "where the Holy Spirit dwells" (1 Corinthians 3:16; see also 1 Corinthians 6:19). There's more though! We as a Body of believers are also His sanctuary! Ephesians 2:19-22, tells us that we are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God and, "Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."

Can you imagine a group of people together telling God, "O God, You are our God! We hunger and thirst, we say, 'No!' to the flesh, and say, 'Yes' to You!" It will be a whole lot more than a board meeting, praise God! Nothing boring about encountering the Living One! We will meet with God because of our hunger. When we gather in one accord and cry out to Him because we're hungry, we WILL GET BREAKTHROUGH in the "sanctuary," the corporate Church Body!

Now think for a moment what would happen if your family gathered in the house to say, "O God, You're our God!" Expect a Jacob's ladder anointing where your home will become a gate to Heaven. Imagine a fresh hunger coming to your household and when people walk into your house, they'll encounter the Living God!

Do you know that my wife and I cannot get our grown kids to leave our home because they say that it's so peaceful there? Of course, the Prince of Peace lives at our house! When we hunger for Him, His presence stays! When I awaken and say, "O God, I hunger!" I hunger for Him and I hunger for Him to blow the lid off anything I've ever seen or done before! How about you? How hungry are you? Are you ready to see Him lift limitations? Gather with others and agree that where two or more gather in His name to tell Him, "You are our God, we say, 'NO!' to the flesh and 'YES' to You," that anything is possible! Hey, it only took 120 people hungering after the promise of the presence of the Holy Spirit to receive the mighty outpouring of God's Spirit and incredible breakthrough for spreading the Gospel.

To See Your Power and Your Glory

What did David say after he told God that he looked for Him in the sanctuary? He said that he looked for Him there to: "See Your power and Your glory." We need His power and His glory in our lives! It's an awesome thing to see the power of the Lord at work! Nothing is impossible for Him. Even more overwhelming is His glory. Contend to see His glory. Moses said, "God, show me Your glory!" Are you asking that of God? Remember that YOU are His dwelling place!

Think for a moment what will happen when He shows you His glory and power in His dwelling place. Imagine God's glory and power exploding in the sanctuary. We need an encounter with God that fills us afresh with His power and His glory. Do you know what happens after a fresh breakthrough and revelation of His power and glory? Of course! Praise! "Oh God, I'm so glad You're my God! We're so glad You are our God!" King David said, "Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You!" Our lips shall praise Him! Once you get a taste of His power and glory, all you'll want is more. You'll become desperate! Hungry! Thirsty! Your soul and your flesh will cry out to Him!

Ah, glory in the tabernacle, that's what I want! Gather your family, gather your church, and cry out to Him for His glory cloud to cover the tabernacle of meeting! When it covers that sanctuary, God fills it with His glory! "Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle" (Exodus 40:34). The cloud of His presence covers the tabernacle of your life everywhere you go, and on every journey, it covers you. Check out how the cloud of glory affected the children of Israel:

"And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle meeting because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. Whenever the cloud was taken from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the Lord was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys" (Exodus 40:35-38).

Arise, Shine!

The glory makes you shine! "Arise, shine, for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you" (Isaiah 60:1). Have you ever been around someone who has just experienced the glory of God? The glory glows so brightly in the inner person that we see its brilliancy! The Book of Hebrews makes the point that our covenant in Christ Jesus is far better than the Old Covenant of the Law through Moses (see Hebrews 8:6), and if Moses came down from that mountain glowing after leaving God's presence, how much more we shine with Emmanuel, God With Us! Oh my gosh! We serve Emmanuel God With Us, His glory constantly an overshadowing cloud of His presence.

Are you ready to step into that realm of open Heavens? We can live daily with a fresh infusion of dunamis, dynamite power to live as an overcomer, not overcome. What's the difference? An overcomer says, "I can leap over walls! I don't see any giants, I see the promises of God and they are 'Yes' and 'Amen' in the anointing!"

Friends, we are about to see families, churches, and businesses filled with the cloud of His presence and His power where anyone who encounters us, visits us, or does business with us will encounter God and His presence, and experience true freedom. The anointing sets captives free! We must have an overcomer's lifestyle of ruling and reigning in this life. Life shouldn't rule us! Our walk should be that of living to glorify the Master who said, "Be of good cheer, for I have won!" He wins!

Breakthrough for His Presence

So, how do we get or see this breakthrough of His presence in our lives? II Chronicles 7 describes a scene from Solomon's temple, whereby the priests placed an offering on the mercy seat of the altar and the fire of God came down and consumed it. Afterward, the glory of God filled the temple. For believers, the Blood of Jesus is our finished and completed offering. This means that we can ask for the glory of the Lord to fill the temple (us).

When you gather with others, or when you spend time alone with God, do you ask that the cloud of His glory would fall upon you? Do you go for breakthrough? Maria Woodworth-Etter had this revelation. She understood that she could establish the realm of the Kingdom wherever she put up her ministry tent by accessing the tabernacle of His presence and asking for the glory to come. And when His presence would break through, people in their homes within a twenty-five mile radius from the tent would be overwhelmed by His presence.

How desperate are you for that kind of glory to fill the temple? Think of the possibilities for your city to be touched and awakened to His presence. I'm going to go for breakthrough! At a recent meeting in Cedar Rapids, a healing wave came in and God healed many, though not all. I went for breakthrough and said, "Now Lord, You healed many the first time, You'll heal the rest also!" Then another wave came in and when I asked how many had any pain whatsoever, only three raised their hands.

Go for breakthrough! Believe God for breakthrough! You can have breakthrough in every area, including finances and harvest. The enemy loves to attack finances to cripple God's people, but GOD wants to give us breakthrough so that we can give out of abundance, not lack!

I'm pressing in for Ezekiel 1 to be a reality in the Church. I want to see the "wheels in the wheels" touch the earth. I want to see all the activity of the Throne come and overshadow us. Imagine gathering with other believers and standing in agreement for God to set up His Throne over an entire stadium of lost people! Listen, Ezekiel in his vision stood under the Throne and looked up and saw lightnings, thunders, and flashes, and "in the appearance of His glory was the rainbow" (verse 28). What did it signify? I believe it is the display of the manifold glory of God, which Ephesians 3:10 says will be made "known by the Church." We will display the glory of God to the rulers and authorities in the Heavenly realms; to spiritual beings both angelic and demonic.

"Manifold" also has the idea of beauty--multicolored, having different hues and tints. How would you like to radiate the multifaceted brilliance of His glory that causes even the principalities of the air to watch your life and go, "Oh my gosh!"

See the NEW GATE into the field that I have for you

The following prophecy comes through Dr. Chuck Pierce at Glory of Zion Ministries in Denton, TX.

The Lord is saying: I AM the WayMaker. I will open the new gate for you. Ask Me to forgive you for not turning MY blessings back into praise. Ask ME to cleanse and restore your mind and heart and bring you into a new purity of expression. Do not allow critical and judgmental spirits to overtake you. I will break forth your WAY. At noon time you will begin to see Breakthrough. My Light will cause darkness to not triumph. Send Me before you and allow Me to contend with the darkness that is set to rob you of MY blessings. Honor My Spirit! I will send the wind! I will send the wind! I WILL SEND MY WIND! I will send the wind to comfort your woundings of the past. Holy Spirit will convict you of allowing your past hurts keep you from coming near to Me.

My Presence is already waiting for you to get to your "there". When you walked through the fire, MY presence was there. When you walked through the flood, the waters did not overtake you because MY Presence was already there with you. I AM Jehovah Shammah. I AM already there. Recognize Me in your midst.

Do not rush in. Do not rush into your decisions this hour. Take one step back and you will see the decisions I am making on your behalf. If you will take that one step back you will see that I am already there to help you decide and realign your will.

I am already Your redeemer at the gate, to open up and unlock the Way for you. I am your redeemer at the gate. When you are ready to move back into the position I have for you, you will see that I AM already there and have unlocked the gate of your prison. See the NEW GATE into the field that I have for you. I AM your redeemer at the gate. I AM present to buy you back from the hand of the enemy. I AM present to establish you and cause you to reign. I AM present to raise you up and bring you back into the fullness of your planned destiny!

John Mark Pool: Worship with Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends today!! This message comes from the elijahlist.com and is a good word concerning the importance of thanksgiving in this new year.
For His Glory,
Joe & Shirley
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

john mark and sandy pool"Enter His gates with thanksgiving; go into His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and bless His name." Psalm 100:4 (emphases added)

A community that comes together in "true worship" will meet for that purpose in God's Church every week to offer true worship to Him.

We are entering the calendar year 2008, and the Lord has shown me this will be a year of "New Gates," and we will enter these new gates with thanksgiving.

A thankful heart is a worshipping heart towards God the Creator. It is not a heart that is selfish, wanting to claim credit for everything done or a heart needing self-affirmation to receive approval from man. Thankful hearts know their "position in God" through Jesus Christ as Lord, and are very thankful for that.

King David offered many songs and prayers of thanksgiving unto God. David knew that without God, he could do nothing to be the powerful ruler that God took him to be--from where he once resided as the shepherd boy tending sheep in the back side of the wilderness. Moses understood that as well. It seems the desert brings out the best or the worst in all of us. If we look unto Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our faith, then we cannot help but have a thankful heart.

"He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to make petition, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD, the God of Israel." 1 Chronicles 16:4 (emphases added)

King David appointed Levites to lead in prayer, thanksgiving and praise. At the heart of this chapter is thanksgiving. Beginning in verse 7, David recited his own "Psalm of thanks to the LORD." The verses following reveal a beautiful song of gratitude to God.

True worship of God comes forth from grateful hearts. Feelings such as bitterness, envy, hostility and pride disqualify one from genuine worship. Thanksgiving opens up the door of the heart toward God in such a way that the individual is freed for true worship of God. Everywhere in Scripture, this spirit of thanksgiving is revealed as vital to our worship experience.

The only missing ingredient from praise and worship is people who do not have a thankful heart. We are to be a thankful people to God for our lives, our country, our churches, our families, our natural resources, our beautiful mornings, our many manifold blessings, and our ability to praise Him! Thanksgiving is the vital ingredient God wants us to offer back to Him, our awesome Creator!

Everyone that has breath, let us praise the Lord! This is the season to be thankful, thus, let us today and forevermore Worship Him in Thanksgiving!

Always a Voice for Our Lord,

Chuck Pierce: Defeating Anxiety and Establishing Your Mind on Your Target

Chuck Pierce: Defeating Anxiety and Establishing Your Mind on Your Target

chuck pierceDear Friends, Intercessors and Zion Aligned:

I am praying that you sing a NEW song. Do not stop singing until you get to the end of your song. The enemy tries to stop your song from coming to the end. He brings circumstances and discouragement to get you out of your place so you cannot hear the completion of the song. I am praying for the Body of Christ to have strength to go the extra mile. I decree that you will not fall short, but will have new energy, stamina and strength to press through for the extra mile.

Isaiah 26 says, "Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter in. You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You." I pray that your heart and mind will get fixed and aligned in a new way. May your mind not be pulled in a thousand directions but stay focused on that thing that will keep you in perfect peace. I break the power of anything coming against you that is pulling you so that your heart is divided. We decree that your mind will be whole and in perfect peace.

I decree that we will hit the mark. Sin will not pull us to the right or to the left. Things that are causing us to be anxious will let go of us. We will hear clearly--we will not be drawn out or robbed of strength so that we miss the mark. The Lord says, "Be willing to step up, for I will give you strength in that place where you have strained to get, a higher place where you can stand, for vision to come forth. I will give you new strength to lift you up. If you will worship Me today, the power of 'lift' will come on you."

If you do not understand the power of lift, there is a section on it in The Worship Warrior. The power of lift will bring you into that place where you can stand and take aim on your mark that God has for you. Lord, let the power of lift hit the Body of Christ today.

Thank the Lord for the Spirit and the Blood. His Spirit is dwelling mightily in you and His Blood is flowing through your veins. Decree that the Spirit of God will energize you and cause you to praise. Ask God for the new word--the new revelation you need to come down and lift you out of the pit that is trying to hold you.

This is a month to develop your warfare strategies. You must have prophetic revelation for the warfare that is swirling around you. This is a time to enter into a new level of trust and rest. This is also the month of "SAMEKH"--with trust, confidence and support coming full circle in your life.

In a season of coming full circle, this is a time to gain new confidence over your future and see your new beginning in a new way. Be sure to "take the night" or get up when He calls you during the night. This is a month of night visions and a month of dreams. The Lord is determined to reveal to you, and align you for your future. Let the Lord stir the depths of your womb or river in your belly so you can receive the ability to understand your next measure. This is a month to shoot straight and move quickly.

I bless you abundantly,

Chuck D. Pierce

Editorial Cartoon: "Abortion Macht Frei"

This comes from OPERATION RESCUE. When will we wake up to this horrible modern day holocaust of abortion?

November 13th, 2007

From the Author, John Francis Borra:

To anyone familiar with the Third Reich, it's obvious what I've done here. This is a play on the iron gates surrounding Auschwitz concentration camp. The actual iron gates read Arbeit Macht Frei (Work Makes You Free). This was, of course, the big lie fed to inmates in order to keep them manageable as they were led from cattle cars to their deaths in the showers. Planned Parenthood's big lie to society is strikingly similar: Abortion Makes You Free. The parallel is dramatic and perfectly appropriate. As a matter of fact, it's not unlike any other cartoon I've done about the culture of death; the truth is so grotesque, so clear, so galling that little imagination- and no exaggeration at all- is required to spin good editorial material from it. In this case, even the security fence and smoke-belching crematorium are no exaggeration; George Tiller, for one, has these on his property. And, of course, the hands of all abortionists drip with blood- literally as well as figuratively.

A Home for Mentally Disabled Children is "A Hidden Kingdom of Grace, Kindness and Mercy" in Jerusalem

The following article is courtesy of BCN (Breaking Christian News)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

"12 years ago, I came here for a job interview. When I left I told myself that I would never come back. But I was here the next day at eight in the morning."

Teresa Neumann (November 8, 2007)

(Jerusalem)—Haaretz has published a touching article on Saint Vincent's, a home run by an order of Catholic nuns situated on a hilltop in Jerusalem for children and youth with severe mental retardation. It is, says reporter Ruth Sinai, a "hidden kingdom of grace, kindness and mercy."

According to the report, religion and ethnic background are not an issue. Currently, about two-thirds of the children are Arab.

Many volunteers help the nuns in their labor and "have caught the Saint Vincent virus," says the director of the residence, Sister Katerina Fuchs.

"The bond that develops between the residents and the volunteers is quite intense," notes Sinai. "The volunteers are really the people closest to the damaged children."

Galit Almodai, the administrative director for the home, said, "12 years ago, I came here for a job interview. When I left I told myself that I would never come back. But I was here the next day at eight in the morning."

Casualties for Oct. 2007

November 7, 2007

I just saw this headline from the Associated Press:
” 2007 is deadliest year for US in Iraq”
Statistically that’s true, but they sure like to make it sound worse than it is. I would like to offer some perspective.

Today’s quiz, who is safer?
A__ U.S. Soldier in Iraq
B__ U.S. citizen of Philadelphia

Surprise! The answer is (A) Soldiers in Iraq are safer.
Last month (Oct.) there were only 28 US soldiers killed by hostile action in all of Iraq. That same month, 30 people were murdered in Philadelphia. (and they weren’t fighting for freedom)

Every soldier lost is one to many, but it’s important we keep what the media is throwing around in perspective.

Here are some other comparisons:
Average number of Americans that are murdered each day 42
Average number of Americans that die from the Flu each day 55
Average number of Americans killed in a car crash each day 114
Average number of Soldiers killed in Iraq (2007) each day 2.8

death-chart.jpg

So far this year we have lost an average of 84 soldiers a month in Iraq. That’s too many, but it’s still less than the combined average murder rate in just 2 of our largest cities.

Monthly
New York Murders 49
Chicago Murders 39
Combined Avg 88 (stats from 2005)

Number of American soldiers killed in Iraq approx. 850/yr
Number of American citizens killed by drunk drivers approx. 13,000/yr

There are some things worth dying for, and some things that aren’t.
Maybe the media needs to re-focus.
