40 Day Cleansing Guide

1. Preparation
1.1 Seeking the Lord
• First acknowledge the character of God in Worship.
• Wait on the Lord and let him examine your hearts.
• Yield yourselves to the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:26, James 4: 6, 7).

1.2 Identify idolatry and spiritual strongholds
• Do any members of the family consistently exhibit destructive attitudes? Criticism, anger, resistance to authority, jealousy between siblings, etc.

• Are there consistent patterns of antagonism between members of your household?

• Are there any indications of backsliding in any member of your household?

• Are there obsessions/compulsions evident in any member of your household? The Internet, music, television, shopping, eating, and so forth?

• Is any member of your household troubled consistently by dreams?

• Is there any unusual atmosphere of confusion or indecision in your home?

1.3 Identify the roots of idolatry and spiritual strongholds
• Is there any point where I as a parent have allowed the enemy entrance?

• Has either spouse violated the Ephesians 5 marital covenant?

• Is there any behavior in either family line, which has allowed the enemy legal access to tempt and harass any member of the family?

• Have I as a parent done anything presumptuously with my time, resources, or finances that has brought pressure on the family?

• Is there anything in the house that could be considered a demonic “Trojan horse” (this could be a CD, video, magazine, or even a relic or totem form a vacation that has occult significance)?

• Has any household “covenant” been broken?

2. The Act of Cleansing

2.1 Having prepared ourselves and identified roots we need to first repent as parents and single adults and commit ourselves to the Lord to follow through with any root cleansing processes (such as researching our family lines) that may be necessary for a permanent cleansing to take effect.

2.2 Having done that, then process to spiritually cleanse the home by anointing each room with oil. Prayers that you can pray room by room might look as follows:

The Kitchen
May this be a room of covenant building and renewal, a place where out meal times become opportunities for openness and healing.

The Family Room
May this room be a place of rest, renewal and dreaming.

The Dinning Room
May you mark our family with the gift of hospitality and may this room be a reminder of our call to minister and be others-centered.

The Living Room
May all who come be impressed with You and may Your Presence pervade our home.

Each Child’s Bedroom
Specifically anoint the bedrooms with oil and break off any assignments or entry points of the enemy based on any entrances you have previously discerned. Loose your children from demonic influence silence the voice of the enemy. Pray prayers of destiny for their future, even pray for their future spouses.

The Parent’s Bedroom
May this room be a room of safety for the husband and the wife a room of intimacy at all levels, especially in speaking ‘life’ to each other.

The Bathrooms
May we unusually sensitive to the still small voice of the Spirit. As I focus on myself, may this be a place where the Lord can speak to me, convicting and encouraging me.

The Yards
I thank You, Lord, for a wall of protection around our home, and receive by faith Your angelic messenger who will guard and protect us.

3. For the Entire Family

• Take Communion
• Parents identify those things God prompts you to share with your entire family.
• Does any family member exhibit any unusual patterns of withdrawal form normal family life?
